Teachers don’t simply teach. They inspire ingenuity and potential. Society depends on their investment. Who will invest in these front line heroes? Who will walk by their side on a daily basis? Learn how school chaplains can provide new life support for teachers.
The last bell rang and Chaplain Lynch visited a few more classrooms offering prayer for the weary teachers. The reply is always the same; “You just don’t know how much I really needed that. Thank you!”
School chaplains offer stability and help foster accountability among students. They support teachers who strive to meet academic standards amidst divisive influences that create challenging classroom environments.
The weight of their students’ struggles does not disappear from the teachers’ minds when they get home. The faces of the neglected or abused children and a memory of a student suicide are the types of trauma that haunts the concerned teachers in their dreams.
Effectively teaching class is becoming increasingly unmanageable. Social ideology distractions, disruptive classrooms, violence on campus, verbal abuse and physical attacks upon the teachers are driving many teachers to flee public schools. Burnout is real.
More than 40% of teachers resign within the first five years of teaching.

The National School Chaplain Association offers trained chaplains specifically for America’s K-12 schools. This care has proven itself in Latin American Countries and America is beginning to embrace it having seen it for themselves. Meanwhile, more schools are losing teaches, which is a signal for additional school officials to open their doors to school chaplaincy.
Marketplace corporations and major sports franchises offer consistent onsite chaplains who have improved morale, company productivity, conflict management skills, morals, ethics and job satisfaction. Employees have become more physically healthy through community, joy, hope and faith.
Teachers deserve the same chaplaincy support that other state, federal and marketplace sectors provide their employees.
Declining academic performance
This is not about funding. There is a matter of emotional crises and spiritual anemia in the school atmosphere. Too many distractions, discipline issues and other barriers to learning have been ignored. The greater meaning of life that originally built education have been abandoned. Grades are a symptom of a broken foundation.
Sergeant News Network shared the U.S. NAEP, Nation’s Report Card. The 2024 Passing Scores revealed: Fourth grade reading at 31%, eighth grade at 30% and twelfth grade at only 35%. Math scores for fourth grade at 39%, eighth grade 28% and twelfth grade at only 22%.
The good news
Chaplains can directly help the teachers navigate their personal and professional struggles. Employee satisfaction and renewed passion for teaching can be reborn when the unnecessary burdens are relieved. Chaplains have the time and ability to address student issues so the teachers can focus on doing what they do best —teaching class.

As greater understanding of the necessity for school chaplains increases, further nationwide expansion can become a reality. Teacher longevity can be sustained.
Some teachers who initially questioned the presence of a chaplain, now regularly seek their help. Trust developed through witnessing life-changing outcomes in their students who had not otherwise been reached. The best results is the collaboration between the licensed professional counselors the chaplain and the teachers.
School principals are requesting chaplains specifically for their teachers. A Texas school superintendent put it this way; “You don’t know how much you need a school chaplain until after you have one.”
